On September 19, 2014, former NBA player Derek Anderson spent a few hours via video conference with the boys of Hearts & Homes. The star athlete who made his mark on basketball, shared his story of being abandoned by his parents at a young age. He talked about his life on the streets and his determination to  beat the odds against him.

An exceptional speaker and role model, Derek Anderson also spoke with the boys about leadership, positive thinking, and the importance of having a positive impact. He challenged the boys to think about what they want to do, who they want to be, and how to make it happen. His warmth and brotherly advice will long be remembered.
